Questions that bring clarity in the arena of financial philosophy and principles must be asked if financial professionals desire to have a sense of “alignment” with their clients.
We must never assume that any other person sees the world exactly as we do or treasures the exact same virtues or principles that we do. Chances are that when we inquire, we will find parallels and similarities and, occasionally, deep alignment with ourselves. It is not possible to feel alignment with other humans until we have shared either experiences or stories with them, or both. Seeking to understand your clients’ experiences, perspectives, and stories will educate you on two things: 1. Is this someone I want to serve as a client? 2. How can I best serve them?
