Someone—and it might as well be you—needs to step up and address the larger context of the purposes and grand design that this client’s money can and will address.
All money has some sense of intention or purpose tied to it. This is the first realization of the truly Life-Centered Planner. We fall short if we only address the substance without addressing the substantive issues of life that a client’s assets are being diligently invested toward. Sometimes they are for goals, sometimes they are for lasting legacies, sometimes they are for freedom to just live the life they seek, and sometimes they are for surviving the difficulties they live with. But make no mistake, money is tied to intention and purpose. Our first mandate is to elucidate what those intentions are and then work to direct assets toward them.
