3. Learn from every mistake, even your own. Demonstrate HUMILITY.
I recall the comical analogy that Jesus shared about, “First remove the beam from your own eye before you try to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.” That’s a pretty hilarious image, me walking around with a 2×4 board protruding from my eye and trying to correct someone who’s got a speck of dust in their eye. But that is human nature, isn’t it? We are quick to take inventory of other’s shortcomings, mistakes, and errors and a bit slower to admit our own. This is vividly illustrated by the fact that we have criticized others for doing something we dislike about our own behavior.
When we are quick to say, “I messed up here,” or, “That’s on me,” we demonstrate a trait that is admired by most: humility. Humility is simply an admission to being human. We all qualify on those grounds.
